A transfer is not successful because the AI dialed a number. It is successful only when the caller reaches the right person—or receives a safe fallback when nobody answers.

Use a transfer ladder

  1. Decide which intents qualify for immediate transfer.
  2. Set the primary destination and business-hours rules.
  3. Define a no-answer timeout.
  4. Set a second destination or message/booking fallback.
  5. Preserve caller context so the human does not restart intake.

Test failure, not only success

Turn off the destination phone and call the AI. Busy line, voicemail, rejected call and after-hours behavior should all produce an intentional result.

Do not: let the AI promise that a technician is “on the way” merely because a transfer was attempted.
